Homework Hate

Staffer tries to find way to balance work, not stress out

Homework+Hate

Shayla Anderson, Staffer

Homework. That word that kids hate. I hate homework. Hate is such a strong word, but I do contradict myself with it. I understand why we get homework; it’s to practice. It’s to practice what we learned in school, so that we better understand it, and the teachers know that we understand it.

The thing about it is that I get so caught up in stress with it. I have dance practice Monday and Tuesdays, and I have daily chores such as washing dishes, wiping down the counter and sweeping. They sound pretty easy, but they’re so time consuming. So is homework. It take so much time, and then when I don’t understand it I get even more stressed out. Math is the subject I get really frustrated about and the subject I am weakest at. I go for tutorials to help me, but then I have less time to work on other homework.

Not only do I get homework from school, but I give myself homework, for things like dance like stretching every night, or practice a dance we learn or a skill. But no matter how much I try to fit those in its already time for me to go asleep. Then every morning I am upset with myself that I didn’t get it in, and that I still sometimes don’t finish it (but Advocate got my back). So what do I do?

I realize that the more I or anyone out there keeps stressing out about homework the more we will be worrying about the wrong thing. We can’t let homework make us unhappy. We just have to learn to accept that homework will always be a part of life, and we have to just go with the flow. Maybe one day I will get stressed-out over math, but I can’t let that ruin my next day.

Homework I will always hate, but it will not only help me better myself in what we learn it will help with a skill that everyone needs to know time management, and that is why homework is so controversial.
