Rhett Butler & Scarlett O’Hara
Gone with the Wind, the Civil-War based novel written by Margaret Mitchell and later film of the same name, portrays polar opposites. The dashing and scandalous Rhett Butler falls for the charming and spoiled Scarlett O’Hara. It takes years for them to actually get together, but the passion and hardships they endure make them a fiery couple.
Jay Gatsby & Daisy Buchanan
The Great Gatsby, a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald and later a movie directed by Baz Luhrmann, tells how far one man will go for the woman he loves. Taking place in the ’20s, Gatsby throws elaborate, wild parties all in the hopes that his former lover, now a married woman, will appear. Their affair leads to a series of tragic events, but for just a moment we see the sweethearts together again.
Romeo & Juliet
The most iconic love story of all time, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is a devastating tale of young, star-crossed lovers doomed to be apart. They fall in love from the minute they meet, not knowing initially they’re from feuding families. Their forbidden love is faced with many obstacles that end with the ultimate sacrifice; each other.
Allie & Noah
Known as the best chick-flick and modern love story out there, The Notebook will tug at all of your heart strings as you watch Noah try to re-kindle his love with Allie. Based on Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling book, the film is a much-watch with Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams making you crying passionate tears by the end of the movie.
Sandra Dee & Danny Zuko
Grease sends us back to the ‘60s when goody-too-shoes Sandra Dee (Olivia Newton-John) falls for greaser Danny Zuko (John Travolta) over the summer…Struggling to keep up his façade of the perfect boy Sandy fell in love with at the beach, and the too-cool-for-school Danny that everyone knows; this musical entails all the better parts of loving someone for who they really are. Summer Lovin’ this movie.
Troy & Gabriella
They’re the ultimate high school sweethearts. High School Musical was the movie of our childhoods. Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) were relationship goals before relationship goals were even a thing. We’re all in this together when I say that they’re the ultimate couple.
Westley & Buttercup
The Princess Bride is the endearing story of the poor farm boy, Westley (Cary Elwes) who falls in love with the fair lady, Buttercup (Robin Wright). From “as you wish” as their secret I love you, to the passionate kiss at the end, it’s not inconceivable when I say this classic love story is a favorite among many.
Hazel-Grace Lancaster & Augustus Waters
The most gut wrenching, heartbreaking love story of the 21st century starts out with two cancer patients, Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shalane Woodley) and Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort) meeting at Hazel’s support group. Throughout the book and movie, the characters go through just about every trial and tribulation possible for love. However, author John Green takes an unexpected turn and leaves the audience broken inside in his wake.
