Q&A with Mr. Maroon winner Danny Benitez

What made you want to do Mr. Maroon?
It started off as something for me to do with my friends, as something fun to do for senior year. 

How did you pick what you were going to do for your talent portion?
We were gonna play Rock Band, and it kinda got complicated with making that work on stage, and then we thought it’d be funny and cute to sing and dance, even though we’re not strong singers.

Who do you think was the funniest person of the night and why?
Shawn Smallets because there’s just something about watching a man of his stature move the way he did. And I loved the man splits.

What was the funniest thing that happened over all?
When we were trying to do the video for Mr. Maroon, when we said our names for RNN, it’s not even hard to do and we made it difficult.

Why do you think you won?
I answered questions well, pulled off a suit, and was willing to hit the high notes.

Would you go back and do anything different?
Maybe pick a different song.

What prize did you get for winning?
Two prom tickets, dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse for two, prom suit, a trip to a salon, and a free corsage and boutonniere.

What’s your favorite part about winning?
The feeling that all of my hard work paid off, and a feeling of accomplishment.
