Varsity Boys Soccer

The boys’ varsity soccer team finished up their first season Friday, March 11 against Marble Falls. The Raiders played 10 district games overall.

“We grew as a team, but we didn’t quote meet our goals and expectations,” coach Darrell Knight said. “We were able to compete with some of the best teams in the area.”

Leading scorers for the team were Jesus Wong de Leon and Michael Cole. Here’s a profile on the two players.

How long have you been in soccer?

Wong de Leon – Since I was four.

Cole – Since I was seven.

How has this season gone?

Wong de Leon– It’s gone pretty well.

Cole – It was a learning experience.

How have you grown this year? Why?

Wong de Leon – I got more experienced playing on the varsity team.

Cole – I’ve learned to face adversity.

How do you think the team will improve next year? Why?

Wong de Leon– We will be more experienced.

Cole – I’ve learned to face adversity.

What is the best part about playing on the team? Why?

Wong de Leon– We play as a family.

Cole – The teammates are like a family.

What do you wish had gone differently during district?

Wong de Leon– I wish we had taken more advantage of opportunities.

Cole– I wish we would have started off stronger.

What inspires you to push yourself?

Wong de Leon – My future.

Cole –Winning and being the best.

What’s your favorite thing about soccer in general?

Wong de Leon– It’s a team sport.

Cole– Playing, scoring goals, and celebrating wins.
