Varsity baseball defeat Vista Ridge

The varsity baseball wrapped up their season with a win over Vista Ridge, Saturday, April 20.

“That was a special game,” senior Hayden Walker said. “It was our last game no matter what, so it was just great to go out there, compete and win our last game in high school.”

The team finished 6-12 in district and 12-17-1 overall. In district, they picked up a win over Leander and won the series with Cedar Park and Vandegrift. The Raiders shut out the Timberwolves 2-0 and 3-0 in the first two games, before dropping the third game, 6-5. In the Vandegrift series, the team lost the first game 2-1.

“Vandegrift is a big rival,” junior Hunter Lansford said. “Such a close game inspired us to try even harder.”

The Raiders would take the second game 3-1 and crush the Vipers 11-1 in the final game to win the series.

“That was awesome, especially because it was their last game of the season so we left the Vandegrift seniors with a loss in their last game of high school,” Walker said.

In their final games of district play, the Raiders lost the first two to Vista Ridge 5-3 and 4-0, before closing out the series with an 8-7 win.

“It felt really good to end our last game with a win,” Lansford said. “It was also nice to help give the seniors a win to end their high school careers.”
