The football team finished their first-ever varsity season Nov.5 against Vista Ridge. In the first two years, the school only sported sub-varsity teams. But this year, the Raiders moved up to the varsity level, playing in 4A competition.
“I knew it wasn’t going to be a piece of cake,” junior Mike Duran said. “But I didn’t know it would be this tough.”
They began the season at Liberty Hill, Aug. 27 and followed it up with back-to-back home games against Bryan Rudder and Hendrickson. The team traveled to Lampasas for the final non-district game, Sept. 17. In district, the team faced Marble Falls, Cedar Park, Dripping Springs, Lake Travis, Vandegrift and Vista Ridge.
“My favorite game was against Dripping Springs,” junior Michael Hoang said. “I dominated on the front line.”
With ten games under their belt, Mann is proud of the effort the team has put forth.
“Getting to go out and play as varsity is an honor within itself and we’re competitive,” Mann said “We have the capacity to be a very good football team and they never quit. That’s all a coach can ask for.”
