Freshman enjoys playing on JV team

Kyle Mitchell doesn’t mind being the only freshman on the junior varsity team. Mitchell, who started playing when he was 6 years old, plays point guard for JV.

“I felt amazing and thankful when I made the team,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell’s love for basketball started when he went to see Kevin Durant and AJ Abrahams play for the University of Texas.

“Ever since then I have been playing and won’t stop for as long as I can,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell’s parents come to every game and push him to do the best he can. His friends and family are also very supportive of him.

“I would love to play college basketball, and then if it ever goes farther than that the NBA would be great,” Mitchell said.

The team played seven games in preparation for district.

“I’m looking forward to playing Cedar Park and Vandegrift because I have some really good friends from CP and Vandegrift,” Mitchell said. “Also, Vandegrift is a rivalry game.”

When Mitchell preps for a game he likes to listen to music and relax.

“I focus on what I need to do for my team and I try to visualize what I’m going to do in my mind,” Mitchell said.

When the freshman is on the court, he’s determined and he feels like no one can stop him.
“I just get into a mode when I step on the court and it doesn’t turn off until I step off,” Mitchell said.
