Two girls run at state, Boreman 7th

At regionals, Boreman repeated as regional champion finishing on the San Antonio course in 17:22.

“I was alone for the whole race so my mindset was to stay focused and make my goal of getting a PR,” Boreman said. “It feels really good [to advance to state], but it feels to have someone go with me this year.”

Sophomore Haley Timmons was fourth with a time of 18:11. Both girls qualified for state.

“It’s kind of bittersweet because I won’t be with my whole team, but also a great opportunity to race with other competitors,” Timmons said.

On the guys side, the entire team competed at regionals, finishing seventh.

“I felt good, because I felt like I really help my teammates do the best that they could do by pushing them,” junior Logan Zipkes said. “That was our best race ever and it gives me confidence on how much better we’ll be next year.”

Mora was the top finisher for the boys, taking 20th in 15:59.

“We all ran our best race at regionals,” Mora said. “We have been told we were too young, too small, not fast enough, next year we could, but we would have to wait [to go to regionals]. Yet we made it for the first time in Rouse history as a team.”

STATE MEET

Boreman and Timmons returned to Old Settler’s Park, Nov. 9 for the 4A state race. Timmons, who advanced to state for the first time, finished 29th.

“It was hard but it was fun,” Timmons said. “It’s really exciting and I feel more confident with all the support of my friends.”

Members of the cross country team came out to support the two runners. Boreman, who won the race as a freshman, finished seventh almost a minute off her normal time.

“I’m not as upset as I am embarrassed about my race,” Boreman said. “But I know for sure that I can begin to improve and keep setting my goals higher and higher.”

The state meet was a culmination of a successful season that included 18 top 20 finishes, the boys team advancing to regionals and two girls competing at state.

“We had a great season boys and girls,” Thompson said. “The season couldn’t have gone better from all the effort we put in.”
