Boreman wins district meet, boys take 3rd

Sophomore Madie Boreman defended her district title at the 25-4A cross country meet, Friday, Oct. 25. Boreman finished in 17:56, 21 seconds before Cedar Park’s Brittany Innis.

“It felt amazing to win,” Boreman said. “Last year I ran 17:53 at state today I felt great because I ran 17:55 today so I’m really excited for my future races.”

Sophomore Haley Timmons, who is a swimmer and only recently joined the team, finished third in 18:46. Both girls qualified for regionals.

“It felt pretty awesome to be running with my friends,” Timmons said. “I’m proud of them and I loved the thrill of the race.”

Other finishers for the varsity girls included junior Savy Escobar who was 23rd, senior Stephany Rubalcalba 39th,senior Jessica Forster 40th and senior Helena Castle 47th. The varsity girls finished fourth as a team.

The varsity boys had four runners place in the top 20 and placed third as a team. Junior Suede Mora led the team coming in seventh, finishing in 16:21. Junior Logan Zipkes was 12th, sophomore Mitchell Ballis 18th, junior Connor Brooks 19th,  sophomore Nico Escobar 30th and senior Juan Fajardo 36th. This is the first time the boys team qualified for regionals.

“Before the race, I told everyone, ‘Let’s change history today,’ and we did just that,” Mora said. “I”m excited to run to get to state and I feel like our changes are good.”

Boreman, Timmons and the varsity boys team will compete at regionals in San Antonio, Saturday, Nov. 2.
