Habitat for Humanity had their first build, Saturday, Oct 8. They met in Round Rock to frame a house and level the yard for an Ethiopian family.

“The work you do is seen as the progress is made,” Habitat sponsor Nikki Allen said. “You can see the effects that your work has on the family that will live in the house.”

Fifteen student volunteers worked alongside the adults at the build. The club, which is currently in the process of acquiring as official charter membership as well as designing their T-shirts, hopes to help with another build later this year.

“The build was really, really hard, but so worth it,” senior Kaeli Warde-Sandoval. “You get to help people who don’t have the same housing as you do. It makes you feel good.”

Habitat is open to any students interested in joining. Anyone can join the club, but only students 16 and older can build. The club especially needs male volunteers. Students interested in joining should see in room 2206.

“Habitat is a great way to get out into the community and help people in a real and personal way,” Allen said.
