Q&A with the Homecoming King and Queen

Were you surprised to be nominated for the Homecoming Court?
Victoria Leonardo: I wasn’t that surprised because I was nominated last year, but it was still awesome.

Ed Butts: I didn’t even know we were doing that this year.

How did you feel when your name was called over the loud speaker during halftime?
Leonardo: I was freaking out. It was amazing.

Butts: I was with the team and I didn’t even hear my named being called, but when I found out I was really happy.

Did you have any idea you might win?
Leonardo: No, not at all. I was totally surprised.

Butts: I thought that either me or Brady [Spencer] would win.

How do you feel about being the school’s first-ever Homecoming King & Queen?
Leonardo: It is a huge honor and it’s really, really cool.

Butts: I think it’s exciting and an honor.

How did people react to you winning?
Leonardo: Everyone was really excited for me and they were happy and I guess glad about it.

Butts: People said congratulations a lot and that I deserved it.

Did you know you would have to dance together at the Homecoming Dance?
Leonardo: No but it didn’t matter since I’ve known him since kindergarten, but yeah it was kind of awkward.

Butts: No, but it was really awkward until I got to dance with my real girlfriend.

What advice do you have for next year’s King and Queen?
Leonardo: Don’t try to expect anything, and just be happy to make it on the ballot and that you’ve won.

Butts: Win the football game ‘cause no one wants to have a losing Homecoming.
