A Wonderland Review

Another of Tim Burton’s creations strikes again. Alice in Wonderland, which was number one in the box office this weekend, is another whimsical, bizarre creation by the mastermind himself. With ideas and characters from Lewis Carroll’s classic, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the film is quite original and extremely imaginative. The digital effects and intense sequences make you never want to blink throughout the entire film.
Alice, played by Mia Wasikowska, is an innocent 19-year-old girl about to get married to a non-compatible man. After denying the man’s hand in marriage, she follows a strange white rabbit wearing a waistcoat to a large rabbit hole. After falling to the depths of Wonderland, Alice’s unique adventure begins with a given task of slaying a Jabberwocky, a scary dragon-like creature.
Burton’s right-hand man, Johnny Depp, once again portrays another odd character, the Mad Hatter. The Mad Hatter’s looks alone are enough to dazzle, with abnormally bright orange hair, excessive make-up, and eccentric clothes; one look at the Hatter will cause laughter and the desire to take a trip to Wonderland. Adding character and personality throughout the film, one becomes attached to the Hatters quirkiness, which allows the eccentric fellow to become one of the leading characters. Guiding Alice throughout her journey, the Hatter makes the film much more enjoyable and witty. Depp’s performance was, by far, the best of the film.
If you’re a fan of Tim Burton’s other work, you’ll love this movie. Its eye candy affect, adorable characters, and flowing plot makes it a must-see. Two thumbs up!
