Over the winter break, varsity cheerleaders sophomore Shelby Bachmayer and senior Kirsten Pechacek traveled overseas to London to perform in the London New Year’s Day Parade.

“This trip meant a lot to me because I have worked really hard for it,” Pechacek said. “To experience it during my senior year was very special.”

The two attended a UCA cheer camp over the summer where they were nominated for All American and invited to represent the school and perform in the parade.

“I felt very honored to represent Rouse High School, Rouse Cheer and Varsity Spirit, the organization that sponsored the trip,” Pechacek said.

The parade showcased cheerleaders, dancers, bands and other entertainers. Bachmayer and Pechacek performed in a dance to Footloose with others who were invited by Varsity Spirit.

“This trip allowed me to experience other parts of the world and have different interactions between people.” Bachmayer said. “It was an amazing experience.”

Performing in the parade wasn’t the only event that Bachmayer and Pechacek had a chance to be a part of while across the pond.

“On our off days we got to tour all of London,” Pechacek said. “It was gorgeous and had many iconic sites to see.

We went to the London Tower, the London Eye, St. Paul’s Cathedral and Big Ben. I made lots of great memories with Shelby, my mom and some new friends.”
