Editor’s Note: Due to weather, the game has been moved to the gym.

To raise money for Make-A-Wish, Student Council will host Bubble Soccer, March 9.

The fundraiser will be played tournament style, with a freshman team playing sophomores and a junior team facing seniors. The winners of those games will then play each other. In addition, the faculty will a game against each other.

“I want it to be a fun event for the students before spring break, and I heard about the bubble soccer game a couple years ago from Coach Williams,” Principal John Graham said. “I thought the students would enjoy their classmates, and some of our staff competing against each other in the oversized balls in a fun and entertaining event.”

Each team is comprised of five players who will be in an inflated plastic bubble with their legs free to kick the soccer ball. All of the games will happen during Advocate at the stadium. Clubs nominated students in each grade level and names were drawn for the winners.

“I’m really excited because it’s for a great cause, and it’s different than most of the fundraisers we do,” sophomore Chloe Hatfield said.

Student interested in watching and supporting Make-A-Wish need to pay $1 to their Advocate teacher. They’ll then receive a Make-A-Wish star which will be used as their game ticket.

“I think it’s going to be hilarious,” Breeden said. “If you haven’t seen a video of it go watch one because it is so funny.”

All proceeds will benefit the three Leander children to help grant their wishes. Grant, age 3, has cancer and wants to go to Disney World during spring break; Wyatt, age 8, has cystic fibrosis and wants to go to Disney World; and Katie, age 9, has epilepsy and her wish is to go to Great Wolf Lodge.

“Make a Wish is a great organization, and any money we raise will go to support a great cause,” Graham said. “I look at every fundraiser as an opportunity to raise money for a deserving organization, and whatever amount we raise, is more than they had to begin the day.”

Players should stop by Student Council sponsor Andrea Breeden’s room to receive a permission slip and Advocate pass for a meeting Monday.

“I hope that doing community services events while y’all are in high school will help encourage to do it when you’re older,” Breeden said. “Giving back to your community is such an important and rewarding thing, so hopefully we’re sparking that fire now, so then when you’ll get older you’ll give back.”
