After the first round, the varsity girls are 2-4-1 in district play.

“We lost some games but we learn from our mistakes,” freshman Sydney Sheehan said. “Our team is more of a freshman team, we only have a couple of juniors and most other teams are seniors and juniors so I think we’re pretty well for a team with eight freshmen. I feel like we’re doing well.”

The team started district with a 3-0 win over Pflugerville. They lost matches to Westwood, Round Rock, Cedar Ridge and Hendrickson, tied McNeil 1-1, and beat Stony Point 4-0.

“I think we definitely need to improve for next round,” junior Abby Schraeder said. “There’s seven teams in the top four that we need to tie if we want to make playoffs. We’re definitely capable of doing it if we play like we have the last couple of games.”

The team has eight freshmen on the roster.

“It’s been kind of hard because we’re really young,” freshman Emily Forster said. “And the team is really young so none of us really knew what to expect and there’s a lot of upperclassmen that we’ve been playing who have played together for a while so it’s been kind of hard. We’ve done alright, but we haven’t done that well this season.”

Halfway through the season, the varsity girls travel to Pflugerville today to start the second round of district.

“I just like all the girls on my team, we have fun together,” Forster said. “That’s what the best part is to me, playing with them.”
