The varsity girls basketball wrapped up their season with a loss against Cedar Ridge, Feb. 9, finishing the season 17-19 overall and 5-9 in district.

“We have done pretty well, compared to last year,” senior Bailie Rogouski said. “We are playing more as a team and was a lot more fun.”

The second round kicked off with a home win over Stony Point 65-53, Jan. 19.

“I think Stony Point was a great win for us,” senior Kailey Hunt said. “The first on was our first district win at our first district game. I think that made a statement. It was even more exiting to beat them for a second time. It proved it wasn’t a onetime situation. No, we made a bigger statement with our second win.”

The girls faced Hendrickson with a loss of 47-38, Jan 22. After Hendrickson, the girls played Pflugerville losing 40-75, Jan 26. Then the girls had a game against Westwood. The girls lost to Westwood 58-52.

“We definitely put up a good fight,” sophomore Taylor Douthitt said. “We played together as a team really well, but we came up short. It was hard to lose a game like that.”

Up by 10 in the first quarter, the Warriors closed the lead to 24-21 at halftime. Westwood scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to win, 58-52.

“I think that they [Westwood] were bit surprised by how well we were playing with them,” Hunt said. “After half time they adapted to what we have been doing. That’s what good teams do, and Westwood is a good team. Ultimately I think that’s why they won the game.”

They lost a close game to Round Rock, Feb. 2, 57-54, but bounced back with a 30-plus point win over McNeil at their home court, Feb. 5. They won 62-31, their biggest win margin all year.

The five wins in district was a huge improvement from last year’s one-win district season. For the five seniors who played their final game Tuesday, they’ve seen the development of the team this year.

“More than anything, I am so proud for the girls,” Hunt said. “Everyone in the program and how they’ve played this season. We worked our tails off. It may not have gone the way we wanted, but I had a lot of fun and I’m grateful for that.”
