Falling for Autumn

Junior staffer lists 15 reasons to love fall

Ally column mug15. Festivals – ACL, Pecan Street Festival, the State Fair, etc. Whether it’s for the fried foods or the entertainment, fall festivals are the best kind.
14. Store Sales – Now I don’t know about y’all, but as a high schooler I have no money, but I still want to buy things. So when the stores start bringing in their seasonal clothes, I head straight for the summer section where I can find shorts on sale. Besides, who am I kidding, sweaters are just for decoration in Texas anyway.
13. Scarves – Ladies, and a few gentlemen, it’s that time of year again! Start digging through that box under your bed for your favorite scarf because though you won’t be needing it, it’ll still look cute with that outfit…hopefully.
12. Leaves – Your wardrobe and Starbucks order aren’t the only things changing; the leaves are too. And quite honestly, that’s one of my personal favorites about autumn.
11. Candles – The million different candles you can find when you walk into a store that make you want to shed tears of joy as your favorite season has finally arrived. Or maybe that’s just me.
10. Pumpkin Spice – If you’re like me, the first thing you thought when you read Pumpkin Spice was the latte, but I mean, hey if there’s other pumpkin spice things you like instead, those should be recognized too.
9. Bonfires – Those things that usually end with the burning of some notes that were deemed useless two weeks ago: bonfires.
8. Leggings – Okay, let’s be real here. Those leggings are probably some of the most comfortable things you own, and if you don’t own them, deep down inside you probably wish you did. Just not around Ms. Howard.
7. Cat Sweaters – While you’re enjoying your leggings, why not also support your pet cat, Charlie, and introduce him to all of your friends.
6. Fuzzy Socks – My obsession with fuzzy socks is worse than the 9-year old girls’ addiction to Taylor Swift. AKA, it’s bad. But hey, at least they’re comfortable.
5. Pictures – I ain’t the only one taking pictures of the trees or the sunset. Y’all be taking pictures of this stuff for Instagram and tweeting about it too. Don’t lie.
4. Block Parties – The BBQ alone is a good reason to go to a block party. If it doesn’t have BBQ, it’s not a block party. Besides, this is Texas…isn’t BBQ a necessity anyway?
3. Thanksgiving Break – That break where we all say we might actually do our homework, but suddenly it’s Sunday night and nothing’s been done. #thetypicalhighschoollife
2. Thanksgiving – Too much food, stretchy pants, and…more food. It’s the dream.
1. Texas Football – The thing that controls our lives as we watch the painful losses of our beloved teams, as it seems our favorite teams never win anyway. At least, once again, that’s how it is for me.
